Architectural Design Studio IIB: Designing Bird Watch Tower

FIELD TRIP!

Ah yes, our first ever architecture site analysis field trip is finally here. We didn't get to go one last semester as the aim was to design spaces and spaces only. This semester they added in an environment factor; user + site context for this assignment and assignments to come.

For our batch we visited our local Fraser Hill and my group has been selected to study the Paddock site.
They are in total of 4 site selection in the Paddock, each of them has their own pros and cons and it is up to the students to choose which one is suited best for their selected client.

For this assignment I've teamed up with Jason Lee, and both of us agreed on using Site 2 as our chosen site with its gradient slope and majestic viewing angles. Our lecturer gave us 'Sportsman' as our main client category and we were to design a bird watching tower with its elements.

Before designing, we were to seek inspiration from our site and beyond. Both of us had a painful one instead as Jason Lee got bitten by leeches and I got stung by multiple bees, but all is not lost as these experiences gave us an idea for our assignment: The aggressiveness and persistency of a great sportsman should be. We then put our experiences into ideas, with angular sharp edges penetrating in and boldly protruded out from the side of a hill as if nature herself had a taste of her own medicine.
